From One Dad to Another
Whew! So you’re a first time daddy just looking for some common sense advice, and you’ve surfed through all those 'mother-oriented' pages to get here! I know how you feel. It's kind of like sitting next to the fitting rooms in the women's department while your wife excitedly tries on everything that fits...(and some things that don't).
On one hand, it's a pleasant experience to be sharing and advising in these moments, and yet, on the other hand, you feel just a bit awkward and out of place in these areas where women seem so comfortable.
Well...take a break, and consider yourself "safe" for a while.
You'll need to go back, and, in fact, you'll even want to do so. Perhaps while you're here, though, I can share some random thoughts regarding your role as dad (first time daddy for many of you). My promise to you is that this will be done in an environment free of flowers, kisses, OOOhhhhs, or peppermint-scented balloons. You'll need to respond favorably to these things around the ladies of course, but for now, it's just us.
(Sorry about the pastel layout of the pages…that’s out of my control…Not that I’m not the “man of the house”. You see, I decided my wife should choose the page layout.)
No 'Panic Button' Needed
What wouldn't you do to provide for the present care and future well-being of your newborn baby? This overwhelming and intense desire to be theperfect
first time dad sometimes magnifies (to us) our own short-comings or inexperience...especially as compared to many of the women we know. Consequently, we 'freeze' or 'panic' in the midst of other people, or 'run for help' when our newborn baby shows any sign of distress.

The reality is that though your task of a first time daddy caring for a newborn child is a new challenge, it really doesn't need to be stressful or difficult. Relax and enjoy these fleeting weeks by becoming assured of some simple, but important baby care tips.
Now, you may need to venture back into the 'other pages' of this site to accomplish this, but know that your bravery will be admired by your wife and appreciated (eventually...if not immediately) by your baby. This knowledge will especially come in handy when you get to that time when you wife leaves the baby with you in charge...the "first time with daddy". (Don't worry, you'll be ready!)
Just Call Me "Dad"

The first time daddy has never known this new feeling...of excitement...of love...of responsibility. This little one looks like you (well, not right away...but after that smashed, wrinkled, wet, and slippery baby has had a chance to stretch and adjust for a few days), and that's a really fantastic realization. This is your 'flesh and blood'...your pride and joy...your legacy!
There are only nine people in this world that call me "Dad"! It is my favorite name. However, taking on the "role of Dad” goes well beyond “being the father of the child”. You already know this or you wouldn't be searching through these pages for tips relating to your new role.Key to the future of your child is your success as "Dad".
I trust that you'll enjoy the unique perspective these dad-related pages might add to your search. They don't contain all the answers, but they just might communicate a few things in a way that a woman wouldn't! You can visit the pages of this site outside of Dad's Corner when you're ready...but stay here as long as you wish!
